An Immediate Need for Advocacy in Support of Housing & Protection of the Vulnerable

Two Simple Ways to Take Action:

1. Use the National Alliance to End Homlessness online action to contact your members of Congress. Ask them to include a) $100 billion in rental assistance so that low-income tenants are not forced into homelessness and b) $26 billion in sunsetting housing vouchers to permanently house the most vulnerable people experiencing homelessness in the next COVID-19 relief package. Make sure to personalize your message!

2. Visit the RESULTS Action Center and click "Take Action: Elections are over but COVID crisis is not" to contact your members of Congress. Request that they act now to pass a COVID-19 relief bill that includes $100 billion for emergency rental assistance and an eviction moratorium, and at least $20 billion in international development assistance.

    

Let your elected officials know that you stand in solidarity with those experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or at risk of death from treatable and preventable diseases. Tell Congress commit a portion of our nation’s vast resources to protect low-income renters, the homeless, and those threatned with preventable diseases in a time of global pandemic.

People experiencing homelessness are already in far more dire circumstances than our unstably housed neighbors, and as many programs (including Thursday Outreach and our counterpart down the street, UPLift) have had to stop serving them for safety reasons. 

Globally, resources normally allocated to treat and prevent infectious diseases like AIDS, TB, and malaria, or leading childhood killers like malnutrition, pneumonia, and diarrhea have been diverted to address COVID-19. As a result, we are seeing secondary pandemic of poverty, hunger, and sickness caused by COVID-19 around the world.
