In the past this community's rallied to write letters and make phone calls in support of housing and immigration and other issues. You've participated in JustFaith workshops and Courageous Conversations. When we take these actions of advocacy and education, we don't often see the impact of our efforts. As we continue our Lenten journey, we should take heart from this recent article that points to measurable results.
In a recent Scientific American article, the question is posed: “Are Black Lives Matter protests having any real effect in terms of generating change?" The Scientific American recently published the results of a study that found that fatalities declined 16% in cities that had Black Lives Matter protests.
In the article, Aislinn Pulley, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Chicago, observes that "We should use that knowledge to know that the work we’re engaged in—the movement, the advocacy, the organizing—is what we need. And that needs to expand and get broader, so we can join much of the rest of the world in having zero police killings. We can get there. That takes continued and persistent organizing.”
