The Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the United States is 175 years old this year! It began in St. Louis before the Civil War. Its first meeting was held on November 20, 1845, only 12 years after its founding in Paris.
The Society is divided into service groups called Conferences. There are 4,500 conferences and 90,000 members with 12.5 million service hours have been logged! The larger Vincentian Family is worldwide and includes our dear Daughters of Charity, Ladies of Charity, Vincentian priests and brothers, and others. The core values of the Society include visiting homes of those experiencing poverty and encouraging and supporting Vincentians in their own spiritual journeys.
