The Silver Rose is returning to St. Austin for the weekend of Oct 20 – 22. It is literally a rose, about 8 inches high, made of silver.
The story of the Silver Rose is truly a K of C creation – the first rose came from Council 2312 in Monterrey, Mexico in 1960. Now, each year from early March through mid-December, several Silver Roses are stewarded by Knights councils along routes from Canada back to Mexico, crossing the border at Laredo TX then on to Mexico City in time for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Dec. 12th.
Every stop the Silver Rose makes throughout the pilgrimage is an opportunity to pray for respect for life, for the spiritual renewal of each nation, and for the advancement of the message of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who made known her will through Juan Diego and the miracle of the roses. Our local event, part of St. Austin’s Journey to Tepeyac, will include visits to the SACS Mass and classrooms on Friday and all Masses this weekend.
