When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together and one of them [a scholar of the law] tested him by asking, Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."
St. Austin's is a community of intention, a community with parishioners from over 40 ZIP codes, diverse economically, politically, and culturally. Yet, with all those differences, we are a community united by our intention to realize our mission of manifesting God's love in the world. Our mission calls us to action in the form of charity, justice and advocacy. Catholic Social Teaching lights our way as together we serve as Christ's eyes, hands, feet, and heart.
Let nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not change. Patience achieves everything. Whoever has God lacks nothing. God alone suffices.
~ St. Teresa of Avila 1515 - 1582
Christ has no body now on earth but yours; no hands but yours; no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which the compassion of Christ must look out on the world. Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good. Yours are the hands with which He is to bless His people.
