The week of December 20th should see the final components installed, system tests completed, settings adjusted and our long wait in dusty darkness will be done!

From Fr. Chuck - Status: Disruption
Dateline: October 30, 2020
OUR CHURCH RENOVATION on the interior is in progress and moving right along. However, for this weekend and next there is great disruption of the pews. There are many tripping hazards. Seating is different from the usual pew arrangement. Therefore, I respectfully request that if you have even minor issues with balance, or are a bit infirm, or if you are disabled, PLEASE join us on our live stream Mass and do NOT attend church in person these two weeks. Soon we will have things back in order and we will be delighted to see you. But for your safety, and our peace of mind, please do not attend Mass in person this week if you should avoid tripping and falling. Your patience and understanding are most appreciated.
Fr Chuck Kullmann, CSP
The slide gallery below captures the progress as well as the need for great caution in the church.
This renovation project replaces the original lighting and sound system installed during the construction of the church over 65 years ago.
Source of funding
A portion of a parish's contributions to the Diocese of Austin Encountering Christ Capital Campaign was returned to the parish. Your generous giving to that campaign as well as gifts to our Altar Society provided the funding for this project. Thank you for fulfilling your pledge to the Diocesan campaign and for your generosity to our community and its mission.
On the New Internet Connection in the Church
A Familiar Tale or How is the Internet like a Pig?
The installation of the new internet in the church is something like that tale.
The project requires pulling wire from the alley overhead wires and passing it through the church wall into the attic above the sacristy.
Grande Communications, our internet provider, has an overhead wire in the alley, mounted on the telephone poles up and down the alley.
Grande can access the wire once it gets permission to 'climb' the telephone pole.
Permission to climb the pole comes in the form of a permit from the City of Austin. The minimum turnaround time for that permit is 90 days. The permit has been requested.
We've done the math. It appears that the light and sound renovation will be completed before the new internet service is available in the church. Until then, we must rely on our unpredictable WiFi connection.

Good News! Glad Tidings! An Important Update!
Long expected, the work on the church interior begins SOON!
For some time now we've waited for the construction work on the interior of our church to begin. We've shared plans for long-overdue improvements to our lighting and sound systems. We're happy to announce that work will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. The renovations are expected to go on through November.
What's the impact?
The good news is that every Friday, the contractors will restore the sanctuary for services, so our Sunday (and Saturday evening vigil) Masses will take place in the church as will any planned baptisms, weddings, and should they be needed, funerals. There may be missing pews or scaffolding from week to week, but we will worship our Sunday Masses in our church and livestream from there.
The other news is that we'll continue to celebrate daily Mass. It will be livestreamed from the Our Lady of Guadalupe Room. We ask your understanding and patience with these limitations.
With classes resuming on campus on the 8th, there will be students in both Paulist and Hecker Halls.
To comply with CDC guidelines on safe distancing, we're only able to accommodate 12 persons in addition to the celebrant, the lector, and our camera operator.
Masks will be required and must be properly worn.
Please enter OLG through the courtyard and the patio door. The Guadalupe Street gate will be open.
The front door will not be available for use as our office doesn't open until 9 a.m.
What are the glad tidings?
To quote Fr. Chuck:We'll celebrate Christmas in our renovated church interior!!! (He really used three exclamation points.)
