Outreach to Persons in Need serves folks in the Austin-area who are looking for help with rent or utility assistance. Oureach volunteers listen to the needs and circumstances of our "guests" and serve without being judgmental or patronizing. Assistance is provided most Thursday mornings. Most guests are served remotely via phone, and a few are served by appointment at our Ministry Center.
Outreach is looking for compassionate volunteers who are available to serve persons in need on Thursday mornings remotely via phone. We also have brief service opportunities on Wednesday mornings (remotely via phone) as well as in-person and remote administrative needs. We especially need volunteers who can speak and understand Spanish spoken over the phone. All prospective and current volunteers must be EIM compliant.
Unfortunately, we are not accepting in-kind donations at this time. For in-kind donation options, please check out The Other Ones Foundation for ways to help those experiencing homelessness.
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron, St. Vincent de Paul.
As a reflection of the whole family of God, Members, who are known as Vincentians, are drawn from every ethnic and cultural background, age group, and economic level. Organized locally, Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice. The Society collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because, in them, Vincentians see the face of Christ.

Gabriel Project provides emotional, material and spiritual support for pregnant women and families with very young children. We seek to plant the seed of God's love within the hearts of women and men who feel overwhelmed, lost, alone or afraid - whether rich or poor, single, married, young or older. We welcome families of any faith, those that have been away from the faith, and all who have had little or no faith foundation.
Gabriel Angels (volunteers) walk alongside Gabriel Project participants through pregnancy until the child turns 2. Angels receive extensive training to feel comfortable providing emotional, material, and spiritual support to one or two moms (or families) at a time. They are also supported by the Gabriel Project coordinator through one-on-one support and monthly Gabriel Project meetings. The monthly meetings begin with prayer and offer the chance for Angels to check in about the circumstances of each mom or family they are supporting in the ministry.
Micah 6 of Austin is a network of faith communities in the University of Texas campus area that work together to answer the call of Micah 6:8 to:
Do justice through education, dialogue, and advocacy.
Love kindness by compassionately serving those who come to us for assistance.
Walk humbly with God by providing opportunities for the spiritual growth of those we serve, our congregations, and other community partners.
Micah 6's main ministry is their twice-a-week Food Pantry on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. For more information and to sign up to volunteer, please visit Micah 6 of Austin.
Micah 6 also serves homeless street youth a hot Sunday meal each week. A group of St. Austin volunteers provides the meal approximately once a month. Email Kristen Dempsey Pasyk to volunteer in this ministry.
