The seminarians in formation for the Diocese of Morelia send their thanks for the financial support you shared last August. With your help they're transforming a broken and hazardous sport court surface into one swept clean and ready to be refurbished. They offer these photos to demonstrate that the work is well underway. Look for a sequel - the noisy part of the project will be completed this summer when the students are away. They promise to send more photos of the completed project.
This Catholic educational community for the formation of Catholic priests belongs to the Archdiocese of Morelia in Mexico. Founded in 1536 by the Franciscan missionaries, Morelia is located in the center-west of the Mexican Republic. The Archdiocese of Morelia has a Catholic population of about 2,800,000 people. Our Seminary was founded about 250 years ago and is proud of the many priests and bishops ordained from our seminary. We invite you to spend a moment considering the photos and videos (in English and Spanish) below on this page.
The seminary is blessed to have 230 seminarians studying and preparing to become priests. So many vocations are both a grace from God and a challenge to find the financial resources necessary to educate and complete the formation of our students.
The Diocesan Seminary of Morelia has two critical financial needs ~
Academically, the Covid-19 pandemic forced us to incorporate remote learning and in this regard we need small laptops for all of our seminarians. Technology will enable our seminarians to better complete their formation as priests and simultaneously develop the critical lifelong learning tool of being computer competent.
Our dilapidated outdoors sport courts for basketball and soccer are desperately in need of upkeep and restoration. In the formation of priests, as with all people, physical activity and team sports are important for their holistic development. We need a safe and healthy space for our seminarians to renew and restor themselves in recreation and community.
Meeting these two critical needs requires that we raise $50,000.00. Whatever financial help you can provide is greatly appreciated. There is much good news - the dollar is strong and has a purchasing value in Mexico of about 4 times what is does here.
God remembers the generosity of his pastors and the faithful who reach out to help their brothers in need. Our Lord Jesus Christ said “…not one glass of water given in his name to any of his own will be unrewarded…” We pray that our God will reward you one hundred times for the gift you make on behalf of your brothers at the Diocesan Seminary of Morelia in Michoacán, Mexico. Your generosity will pay dividends well into the future as priests are formed to minister and teach the word of God to fellow Catholics! Thank you for your help!
May Our Lady of Guadalupe bless this Diocese of Austin, its bishop, priests, and the faithful who in this way show solidarity with those in need.
