Did you know there was once a beach club atop the rectory? It’s true! Consisting of a pergola on a wooden platform and some lounge chairs, it was dubbed “Paulist Beach” by Fr. Ed Nowak. It was a place to relax in the sun and grow potted tomatoes but it was showing its age. About 15 years ago, the Knights agreed to build a new structure. Demo Day was quick; old wood was lowered by rope to a truck in the alley. Construction never got started for a variety of reasons. Fast forward to today: the Council has funded new outdoor patio furniture for “Paulist Beach” at the new rectory in Parish West. Our original project has now come full circle!
The Council recently lost one of our Honorary Life members. Mr. James S. Costello, 90, passed away on July 21st. He joined the Knights in 1980 and transferred into our Council in 2015. Funeral Mass and burial will be in Winstead, Connecticut in early August.
