During this pandemic, we've reached out to many of our neighbors whose lives have been impacted by this deadly disease. One young man in particular was desperately in need of our help. He had been through many difficult times before landing in Austin. He was raised in the projects in Houston by a mother who had many problems. After her death, he lived with his grandmother, who also died. Having no family to help him, he started working on cattle ranches training horses, then moving to Austin in hope of a better paying job. Having little money, he lived in his truck until it broke down. Although he had gotten a job, he became ill with COVID and could no longer work. He had rented an apartment but now was behind in his rent and owed $2,600. Thankfully, he called us at SVdP and we immediately applied for help from the Diocese and other SVdP conferences, since we couldn’t handle this large amount of rent alone. When we called to tell him that we had raised the money and were delivering the rent check to his landlord, he cried with relief and gratitude. He is now stronger, back to work and getting his life back on track. He told us that he knows now that he is not alone, and that God heard his prayers for help.
