Almsgiving is a Lenten practice intended to make us more aware of those suffering and in need. This Lent, our struggle through the Winter Storm brought many of us into solidarity with those in need. For a few days some of us felt their uncertainty, we were cold, in the dark and hungry for a warm meal. While many are still recovering from the storm’s impact, on this glorious Friday, it seems a distant event. Let us stop and remember our discomfort and dis-ease. Let that memory lead us to give Lenten alms generously. There are four options for your charity: our Ash Wednesday collection for World & Home Missions, our mite box giving to CRS and Ashes to Easter – traditionally we returned our mite boxes at the Holy Thursday liturgy, and the Good Friday collection for the Holy Land. If you haven’t visited our hub for this season of change and opening doors, you should – from Stations of the Cross & Soup Recipes to Lenten Lectionaries and great play lists, there are resources aplenty for you to use in your spiritual practice at Lent.
