Earlier this summer, sitting at the dock on the river, my family and I stargazed. It was in the time of the Perseids, I saw one sail past, as I heard my niece say – “shooting star!” We saw a few more. Then, together, my sister-in-law and I started, “The stars at night... Clap-Clap-Clap-Clap" – the others joined. It was a moment of “communal effervescence” - a Texas-sized slice of Heaven under a starry sky.
As summer wanes, we give thanks for such moments of grace and joy, and for the moments we share in our community. There have been many recently such as on Wednesday when a group of SACS alumni parents gathered on the Blacktop.
This week’s news has been heart-wrenching. It’s hard to watch and hard to process. We are aware of the world around us, yet what can we do about war, earthquakes, hurricanes, fires? We can pray and we can respond to challenges as Jesus taught us - with love for God, self, and others. This little weekly eNews doesn’t ignore the world around us. We endeavor to stay mission-focused, to bring God’s Love to our time and place. This week we’ll consider the stars as we pray for "that tiny pea, pretty and blue"* we watch them from!
As we move forward on our Development Journey, our pastor asks us to pray for our pilgrimage. We’ve packed, we’re at the departure gate, it’s nearly time for this big project to take flight. Read our pastor’s reflections on this moment in time at From Fr. Chuck.
