St. Austin offers a weekly assistance program on Thursday mornings and works with other University-area churches through Micah 6 Austin to coordinate outreach services. Help is offered to all in need regardless of faith affiliation or geographic location. Individuals and families are offered spiritual, emotional, and material support and referrals to other community resources. Material support includes financial assistance with utility bills, fees for Texas identification, referrals to our Micah 6 Food Pantry, work boots, clothing vouchers and eye exams/corrective lenses.
Assistance is provided on Thursday mornings at 9 a.m. Everyone eligible to receive assistance is included in a lotto-style drawing. We draw only the number of names we can afford to help that day. Guests can receive assistance once every six months (Austin Energy Plus 1 funds can only be used once per year).
Funding for this program is provided by donations through our monthly Collection for Persons in Need (Austin Energy Plus 1 funds are provided by Austin Energy). Parishoners also have an opportunity to assist with this program in the following ways:
-assist in receiving and serving our guests with kindness, dignity and efficiency
-interview guests and determine needs
-make phone calls to gather information
-provide referral information
-provide a listening presence
