From Fr. Chuck
Dear Fellow St. Austin Parishioners and Friends,
We live in turbulent times with the unprecedented riot at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, and civil protests at the Texas State Capitol. We need to work, in this difficult time, for calm and peace. First of all in our own hearts. We will not be able to be agents of peace if we are interiorly upset, distracted, and nervous. We must do our part by remaining focused on what is most important, and working for peace.
I recommend to you two things: First, the St. Francis Prayer for Peace, and second, the interfaith reflection from Interfaith Action of Central Texas which follows. Our call for peace and respect for each other involves all people in this country, and is bigger than any one political party, race, national origin, or religion. We are all in this together.
True peace can only be based on justice, and justice must be based on truth. So as we pray for peace we also pray for the courage and wisdom to witness to the truth. Not an easy task. But together we can do this.
God bless!
From St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace: where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

We also invite you to share a poignant and hopeful reflection from parishioner Bill Collier in Our Voices.
Join Fr. Paolo for a special rosary for Justice and Peace in person or via our livestream, and we will be using the Luminous mysteries in honor of the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord and our longing for peace in the aftermath of the violence that took place at the US Capitol. We'll pray for those who lost their lives and for a greater commitment to peace and mutual respect in our nation.

Dearest Friends,
We believe in the role of government to keep us safe, we believe in the voice of the people, and we believe the transference of power from one administration to the other be done in a civilized process.
We pray and ask for President Trump and other National Leaders to denounce the actions of the protesters at the Capitol, tell them to stand down and go home. We pray for peace and calm to take precedence over anger and rage.
We pray for safe places for people to express their rage, sorrow, grief, disappointment and fear. We pray for safety and protection. We pray for voices of peace, reason, to help people grieve, help people stay calm. We pray for voices to rise up to be the voices of calm.
We pray for all those afraid, may they be comforted.
This is the moment to embrace your faith. This is the time where our faith teaches us not to fear. Let us sit with our feelings instead of knee-jerk reactions. This is an opportunity to gather the family; sit and be together for a moment of peace, dialogue, and understanding.
May you all be surrounded by a spirit of peace in this turbulent time.
Gratefully yours, Interfaith Action of Central Texas
